Also known as yellow floating heart, Nymphoides peltata is a vigorous aquatic plant native to the British Isles. It quickly forms a dense carpet of miniature waterlily-like, mottled leaves, punctuated from June to July by tall, bright yellow flowers with fringed petals. Aquatic plants such as this play a key role in the success of ponds by cleaning and filtering the water, reducing algae, and providing wildlife habitats. The fast growth rate of this plant makes it a useful 'starter plant' for a new pond, providing quick cover whilst slower plants become established. After this initial phase it can be easily reduced and controlled with trimming. For best results grow in water up to 60cm deep, in a sunny spot. Nymphoides peltata is a fabulously tough plant which can thrive in an exposed, windy spot, and is hardy to -20 C. H: 50cm S: indefinite.
