About Rattlesnake Plant
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴
Taxonomy

Finding light for Rattlesnake Plant in your home
Rattlesnake Plant may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Rattlesnake Plant in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Rattlesnake Plant
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Rattlesnake Plant after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Leaves folding I’ve had this plant for a few years, and occasionally the leaves will fold and look closed. The past week the leaves have been closed and not re-opened. Could this be because of overwatering or the amount of indirect sunlight it’s getting?

Sun or water? This is my first rattlesnake plant. I’ve had her for about a month. She is in a west window with direct sun about 4 hours a day, I water about once a week maintaining damp not soaked soil, and just fertilized at about 1/4 strength with a 10/15/10. Do these leaves look like they indicate inappropriate sun or water? All her leaves feel “plump” and healthy otherwise. Thank you for any suggestions!

leaves curling in after 1 year? we’ve had this rattlesnake plant (rattle shaker maybe? is there a difference?) for over a year and it has thrived until recently when the leaves started to curl in on themselves and not uncurl like they normally would with the sun cycle. any ideas why?

What other plant parents say
She’s very dramatic in that tap water = very shriveled and brown leaves but as long as you use distilled or rain water she thrives! Mine currently resides in ~65% humidity with grow lights and has been putting out two to three new leaves every two weeks or so
