English

Generally a solitary cactus, which grows in height and tends to tilt, when it reaches considerable lengths.

It comes in many variations: the color of the spines varies from golden to dark brown, as well as their thickness may differ.

The Neoporteria subgibbosa has a body made up of ribs, similar to tubercles, the color of which can vary from dark green to purple. It has large downy whitish areoles. Flowering is unusual as it occurs in late winter. The plant blooms with funnel-shaped flowers of pink and magenta shades.

Care

  • It likes very bright places, however, avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
  • It prefers rather mild temperatures, however it still survives even at temperatures close to freezing if the soil is dry.
  • Water moderately only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, once every two months in autumn and suspend it completely in winter.
  • The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.
  • They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
