So I saw this tree in the garden nursery near Palm Beach FL. Maybe 2 stories high.
Very interesting leaves. Curious about What is it?

nope, i know H. tiliaceum very well. the leaves are heart shaped and variegation totally different. It is actually quite common in So FL.

i saw that picture, it's incorrect . if you google 'Variegated Hau' u get H. taliceum (taliceus), not that.
that link u posted to TT - that one shows H. taliaceum correctly. did u bother to look?

I first saw this plant and took a pic of it with the label on Hawaii in a Botanical garden.

There is no need to be horrid.
The identical leaf can be found in the bottom of all the smaller pics.

It would seem that every image of this plant on www is mis labelled.
I will continue to try and find an id to correct my mis labelled pics...and if possible will help.

i did not realize it's yours. but even so in botanical gardens (which i visit a lot!) you can get a wrong label. or mistakenly use a label for a neighboring plant.
i don't see any reliable site ID'ing it according to your label.

there are so-o many erroneous images all over the net.
yes, i saw those 2 images at the end on TT too . they are from what appears a russian source.
TT does not police user uploads for correctness in any case.
and it seems the following image from flicker is now referenced by several other pages and all over pinterest.

Maybe you could ask the nursery what the name of the tree is .
Then I can correct all my incorrectly named images.

That tall plant looks very familiar but the name of the one I was thinking of isn't coming to mind.

The photos below are the Mahoe (Talipariti tiliaceum) - that I'm familiar with, which is quite common in South Florida. It has a synonym of Hibiscus tiliaceus. I'll have to go down the street to my sisters house tomorrow and take some pictures because they have a huge "Mahoe" growing in their front garden.

@Silversurfer, I sure appreciate your knowledge and help with identifying plants! The leaves of Malvaceae can certainly be variable and I believe your original identification of the plant in question is correct. Great photos of the leaves and bloom of that tree in Vanuatu!

This thread reminds me that I need to get cuttings from my sisters huge tree, to try and root a few!

skylark, maybe you can contact the nursery in Palm Beach where you saw the tree and inquire as to the identity. If it's a reputable nursery, they should be able to give you the name but I think Silversurfer has correctly ID'd the plant.

It's a plain statement on origin of the pic.
