I just discovered this species when looking at a nice mostly native plant, naturalistic garden installed in a plaza in the downtown area. This Hyssop-leaf Thoroughwort grows in dry meadows from southern New England down to northern Florida to eastern Texas through Arkansas & southeast Missouri to southern Illinois & southern Indiana; some sources have its native range going into Wisconsin. It is a lovely fine-textured perennial that produces like a cloud of tiny white flowers in late summer into early autumn. The most common variety has thinner leaves about 3/4 to 2 inches wide, but there is a laciniatum variety that has wider leaves of 2 to almost 6 inches wide. This species is not commonly planted or known in conventional ornamental horticulture, but is much better known in native plant-naturalistic landscaping. It is sold by some native plant nurseries as North Creek Nursery in southeast PA, Izel Plants in Maryland, and Prairie Moon Nursery sells the seed.
