Pantherophis guttatus, 21 June 2016

Pantherophis guttatus, the Red rat snake (Corn snake);
Volusia county, Florida (21 June 2016).

In our previous Ormond Beach residence, we had the occasional Red rat snake visitor. This one was photographed in our backyard. Also known as the Corn snake, this species is entirely non-venomous and non-aggressive. They are excellent climbers and one of the species that can scratch out a decent living within residential developments. I’m always delighted to come across one of our vibrant Red rat snakes.
