Tiberius Caesar and his wife - Aegidius Sadeler after Titian / Description: From the series of 12 Roman Emperors and Empresses after TITIAN, w. engr. captions above and below. the address of M. Sadeler. ---- Tiberius, half-length, standing in profile to left, wearing classical armour; after the painting executed by Titian for the Ducal palace, Mantua ---Vipsania Agrippina, her left arm resting on the base of a column; her hair is braided and adorned with jewels, and wears an embroidered mantle held in place by a richly ornate baldric ----- Aegidius Sadeler S. C. M. Sculp. - Titianus inventor', publication detail: 'Marcus Sadeler excudit', and two columns of Latin inscription. / Dimensions: 35,60 x 24,40 cm each / Condition: Good impression with full plate border and margins, each pasted on a larger collection sheet (54 x 34,50 cm). / Literature: Hollstein 348ff --- Plates representing Roman emperors engraved by Sadeler and showing the paintings executed by Titian (and Bernardino Campi) for the Gabinetto dei Cesari, Palazzo Ducale, Mantua, in 1536-1540.
