About the speaker
John Wheeler is the Chief Meteorologist at WDAY a role he has enjoyed for almost 34 years starting in May of 1985. Wheeler’s duties include forecasting the weather and presenting those forecasts as well as other interesting and pertinent weather information across multiple media including television, radio, websites, podcasts, The Forum newspaper, and social media. Wheeler oversees a staff of five meteorologists who, together, work to keep the public informed about the weather all day, every day. Wheeler received his B.S. in Meteorology from Iowa State University in 1984. He is married to the artist, Emily Williams-Wheeler. They live in Fargo and have two grown children.
Wheeler says forecasting the ever-changing weather is what keeps him interested, but finding ways to communicate weather information successfully is his greatest challenge.
