Summary[edit]

Description

Toxotes jaculatrix (Pallas, 1767) - banded archerfish (captive, Newport Aquarium, Newport, Kentucky, USA).

The mostly brackish-water archerfish is famous for its ability to shoot narrow streams of water from its mouth (see photo - www.naturia.per.sg/buloh/photos/a010b.jpg). Archerfish do this to knock down potential prey (typically insects) from above the air-water interface.
