Summary[edit]

Description Native, warm season, perennial, emergent aquatic, monoecious herb to 1 m tall. Leaves are emergent, erect, occasionally floating, to 1 m long and 8 mm wide, mostly basal, but progressively smaller leaves produced up the stem grading into the leaf-like inflorescence bracts.Flowerheads are simple or sparingly branched; main axis is zig-zag, bearing up to 20 sessile rounded heads; the lower 1-6 heads are female, the rest are male. Flowers are white. Flowering is during the warmer months. Grows in still or slow-flowing fresh water to 50 cm deep.
