Catching up on Chiefs' latest pro day attendance

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to actively attend pro days as the season begins to wind down. They’re collecting as much information as possible to make informed decisions when it comes to draft-eligible talent.

We’ve already confirmed that the team has attended pro days for Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, UABTulsaIllinoisKent State, Arizona State, Pittsburg State, Jackson State, Clemson, Minnesota, Georgia, Central Michigan, and Auburn.

We’ve since been able to confirm a few more pro days that the team has attended over the past week. Here’s a look at the latest pro days that Chiefs scouts have attended:

Missouri

AP Photo/Michael Thomas

Chiefs scouts took a quick ride up I-70 to Columbia, Missouri where they were among several NFL teams in attendance for the Mizzou pro day.

Here is a look at some of the players who participated in the pro day:

  • LB Blaze Alldredge
  • RB Tyler Badie
  • DL Akial Byers
  • WR Keke Chism
  • G Case Cook
  • RB Dawson Downing
  • CB Akayleb Evans
  • CB Allie Green IV
  • C Michael Maietti
  • WR D’ionte Smith
  • DE Chris Turner
  • DL Kobie Whiteside
  • WR Micah Wilson

Expect a few of these players to draw invites to the Chiefs’ local pro day as well. One player of particular intrigue to Kansas City (and several other NFL teams) was CB Akayleb Evans. He stood on some of his times from the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, but ran through drills and met with NFL teams and reporters. At 6-2 and 197 pounds, Evans ran a 4.46s 40-yard dash with a 36-inch vertical jump and 129-inch broad jump. He compares favorably to the corner that K.C. just lost in free agency — Charvarius Ward.

Liberty

AP Photo/Kendall Warner

Chiefs scouts were among the 60 NFL representatives spanning 32 NFL teams at the Liberty pro day on Wednesday, March 23.

Here is a look at all the players who participated in the event:

  • S Ben Alexander
  • LB Rashaad Harding
  • TE Trevor Hobbs
  • TE Johnny Huntley
  • LB Storey Jackson
  • DL Elijah James
  • CB Duron Lowe
  • RB Joshua Mack
  • DL Ralfs Rusins
  • DL Jayod Sanders
  • OL Tristan Schultz
  • WR Kevin Shaa
  • S Cedric Stone
  • WR DJ Stubbs
  • S Skyler Thomas
  • QB Malik Willis
  • WR Tre Turner (Virginia Tech)

Most teams were in attendance to see QB Malik Willis, one of the top prospects in the draft, throw for his pro day. Kansas City doesn’t have any needs at the QB position, but it’s possible they were intrigued by one of the pass-catchers. Virginia Tech’s Tre Turner drove down to catch passes from Willis before his own pro day later that day with the Hokies. Liberty WR Kevin Shaa and LB Storey Jackson had some of the best performances on the day.

Ohio State

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

All 32 NFL teams were in attendance at the Ohio State pro day on Wednesday, March 23.

Here are the players who participated in the pro day:

  • WR Chris Booker
  • DT Haskell Garrett
  • DT Antwuan Jackson
  • WR/CB Damario McCall
  • OT Thayer Munford
  • OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
  • WR Chris Olave
  • WR Garrett Wilson
  • RB Master Teague
  • DE Tyreke Smith
  • TE Jeremy Ruckert
  • TE Malik Smith
  • QB Cardale Jones

While Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson stood on their workouts from the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, both players caught passes from Buckeyes QB CJ Stroud during the workout. They were also available to speak with scouts.

Master Teague, who was snubbed from the combine, posted a great performance.  The 5-11 and 221-pound running back was clocked at 4.44s on the 40-yard dash, 6.95s on the 3-cone and 4.29s on the shuttle run. He jumped a 36-inch vertical and 131 inches on the broad jump. He also had 27 reps on the bench press.

A surprise at the pro day was Malik Smith, the brother of DE Tyreke Smith. A former high school basketball star at Cleveland Heights (where Travis Kelce went), the 6-6 and 260-pound athlete worked out as a tight end in front of NFL scouts. He’s unlikely to be drafted, but he could be a solid developmental pickup for a team.

Utah State

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Utah State reps confirmed that the Chiefs were among the 17 NFL teams in attendance for their pro day on Wednesday, March 23.

Here is a look at all of the players who participated:

  • OL Demytrick Ali’ifua
  • DE Jaylin Bannerman
  • S Shaq Bond
  • WR Brandon Bowling
  • LB Cash Gilliam
  • DE Nick Heninger
  • RB Devonta’e Henry-Cole
  • DT Marcus Moore
  • WR Jordan Nathan
  • LB Justin Rice
  • TE Carson Terrell
  • WR Derek Wright
  • WR Deven Thompkins
  • WR Savon Scarver
  • DB Kyle Mayberry

Most NFL teams traveled to Logan, Utah to see the diminutive, yet productive WR Deven Thompkins. He weighed in at 5-7 and 167 pounds, posting a 4.35s 40-yard dash, a 6.98s 3-cone, a 38.5-inch vertical and a 132-inch broad jump. He could be a mid-to-late round target for the Chiefs as they look to replace the production lost with Tyreek Hill heading to the Miami Dolphins.

Temple

James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

According to Pro Football Network’s Mike Kaye, the Chiefs were among the NFL teams in attendance at the Temple pro day on Wednesday, March 23.

Here are some of the players who participated in the event:

  • RB Ra’Von Bonner
  • CB Freddie Johnson
  • OL Michael Niese
  • DL Casey Williams
  • DE Manny Walker
  • S Amir Tyler
  • CB Jeremy Jennings
  • LB William Kwenkeu
  • C C.J. Perez
  • WR Henry Litwin (Slippery rock)

Andy Reid and Brett Veach have always appreciated the “Temple Tough” mentality from their days coaching the Eagles. It’s not a big surprise that they had some representatives at the pro day looking at some potential priority UDFAs.

Cincinnati

Albert Cesare/The Enquirer

All 32 NFL teams were reported as having representatives at the Cincinnati pro day. It was considered a record day for the program with over 100 scouting personnel credentialed for the event.

Here are some of the players who participated in various parts of the pro day:

  • CB Coby Bryant
  • QB Desmond Ridder
  • RB Jerome Ford
  • WR Alec Pierce
  • S Bryan Cook
  • LB Darrian Beavers
  • DE Myjai Sanders
  • DL Marcus Brown
  • DL Curtis Brooks
  • LB Joel Dublanko

Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner watched from the sidelines as his teammates participated, standing on his reputation and 40-yard dash time from the NFL Scouting Combine. A few Bearcats sought to fill in the blanks or improve recorded times and numbers from the combine. None had a more impactful weigh-in than Myjai Sanders, who was down to 228 pounds at the combine due to illness. He weighed in at 247 pounds and his speed going through drills at that weight was notable.

SMU

Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports

USA TODAY’s Jori Epstein reports that the Chiefs were among the teams in attendance at the SMU pro day. Kansas City tends to always send a representative to the SMU pro day being that it’s the alma mater of the Hunt family.

Here are the players who participated in the pro day:

  • WR Charles Headen
  • WR Danny Gray
  • WR Reggie Roberson Jr.
  • TE Grant Calcaterra
  • TE Tommy McIntyre
  • OL Hayden Howerton
  • OL Beau Morris
  • LB/S Trevor Denbow
  • LB Delano Robinson
  • LB Richard Moore
  • OT Braxton Webb (Angelo State)
  • K Blake Mazza

The trio of receivers all impressed during the pro day, with Headen and Roberson both running 40-yard dash times in low 4.4s, while Gray stood on his time from the combine. Hybrid LB/S Trevor Denbow perhaps had the best day of anyone in attendance. Weighing in at 5-11 and 208 pounds, Denbow posted a 4.46s 40-yard dash, a 38.5-inch vertical jump, a 132-inch broad jump, a 4.06s shuttle and a 7.03s 3-cone.

North Dakota State

AP Photo/Michael Ainsworth

The Chiefs were among the 29 NFL teams in attendance for the NDSU pro day in Fargo, North Dakota.

Here are some of the players who participated in the pro day:

  • WR Christian Watson
  • DE Brayden Thomas
  • TE Josh Babicz
  • OL Sebastian Gutierrez (Minot State)

Watson participated in the drills he didn’t do at the combine, rounding out his freakish show of athleticism He benched 18 reps of 225, ran a 4.19s shuttle and posted a 6.96s 3-cone. TE Josh Babicz had a solid day as well, jumping a 37-inch vertical at 6-5 and 255 pounds.

Holy Cross

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

According to New England Football Journal’s Kevin J. Stone, the Chiefs were among the teams in attendance at the Holy Cross pro day on Tuesday, March 22. Holy Cross only had two athletes attend, but there were a number of other New England-area schools with athletes in attendance.

Here are a few of the players that participated:

  • QB EJ Perry (Brown)
  • RB Aaron Shampklin (Harvard)
  • RB Khaleed Exum-Strong (Assumption)
  • WR Tenio Ayeni
  • DE Benton Whitley
  • DE Josh Onujiogu (Framingham State)

The two players who stood out the most from the group of players listed above were the two defensive players, Whitley and Onujiogu. Whitley posted 24 repetitions of 225 on the bench press, a number that would have been good for third among defensive linemen at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

Onujiogu put together an all-around great day, weighing in at 6-2 and 252 pounds and posting a 34.5-inch vertical jump and a 121-inch broad jump. His 6.90s 3-cone and 4.14s short shuttle were also incredibly impressive given his size.
