Suleyman Demir notes:
Syn. Coryphantha clavata v.ancistracantha, C.ancistracantha, Mammillaria stipitata, C.rhaphidacantha ancistracantha.
Columnar or conical plant, generally solitary, up to 30 cm tall , 7.5 cm in diameter.
In the western range of its distribution (Aguascalientes, Jalisco) this species shows hooked central spines (sometimes even several) and was named var. ancistracantha. This form deserves the rank of a subspecies: it has up to 4 central spines, the flowers are more silverywhite to - yellowish and it never grows together with the hookless form, so it is never sympatric. The oldest valid name is not ancistracantha, but stipitata.
The flowers are silverywhite to yellowish with brownish outer segments, up to 2.5 cm long.
