It grows in zones on higher ridges within the saltmarsh.

Skipper butterflies lay their eggs on Chaffy Saw-sedge, which is a food plant for their caterpillars.

The seeds, leaves and buds were used as food by Wadawurrung.

The plant species is of Regional Conservation significance.

Flowers: Pale brown Flowering: Most of the year.
