Hosta virus X #565370

Asked May 29, 2019, 12:41 AM EDT

I recently discovered HVX in my garden when I posted some pics on Facebook.  I can't easily identify it in my garden. I have been told I will eventually.  By these pics I have been told is infected. How can I tell the difference between those infected and those that are naturally puckered or variegated?

Expert Response

Hello,

Hosta Virus X disease can be accurately diagnosed with an Eliza test done your local diagnostic lab. The disease symptoms can closely resemble mottling and rippling hosta breeders are creating in plants, so a test is recommended.
