Phleum exaratum

Phleum exaratum Griseb. (syn.: P. graecum Boiss. et Heldr. subsp. graecum) (SE-Eur., W-As.) – A regular but always ephemeral grain alien, seen most years since 1994 (although recently decreasing). Recorded on unloading quays, waste ground near grain mills, railway yards, etc., mostly in Antwerpen, Gent and Roeselare. Formerly also recorded in Zeebrugge (1948) and as an exceptional wool alien in the valley of river Vesdre (Ensival, 1912). Easily mistaken for native Phleum arenarium and possibly under-recorded in port areas.

All Belgian collections examined belong with subsp. exaratum with glumes long-ciliate along keel.
