Crocus chrysanthus (Herb.) Herb. (Balkans, Turkey) – A rare escape from cultivation or merely a throw-out or garden relic. Probably locally more or less established.
This species and Crocus xstellaris are much reminiscent. Both usually have a deep yellow perianth with brownish stripes outside. They are best separated on bulb characters: bulb covering splits in distinct rings in C. chrysanthus while covering becomes fibrous in C. xstellaris. Also, anthers are distinctly sagittate in the former, i.e. much wider at base than at apex.
