Common Name Tobar's Platystele [Ecuadorian Orchid Enthusiast Current]

Found in Imbabura province of Ecuador at elevations around 1500 to 1700 meters as a mini-miniture sized, cool growing, densely casepitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, ribbed sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, broadly elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a suberect, loose, distichous, to 1.6" [4 cm] long including the .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] long filiform peduncle, subflexuous, racemose, successively few flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul and has oblique, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Unique in the genus because of the three veined dorsal sepal, all others have bet a single vein. The peculiar lip of this species is similar to Platystele fimbriata , Platystele resimula , and Platystele rhinocera , all known by the prominent convexity of the apex. The convexity of P tobari is largest in the middle." Luer 2006
