This small sized, cool to hot growing epiphytic orchid is found from Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Mauritius, Reunion, Madagascar, Yunnan China, Assam India, eastern Himalayas, lower India, Sri Lanka, western Himalayas, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Moluccas, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji New Caledonia, Samoa, Vanuatu and Japan on trunks and lower branches of evergreen lowland forests and primary highland cloud forests at elevations of 400 to 1900 meters with clumping, smooth, green pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblanceolate, stiff-textured, smooth, glossy green leaf that is basally jointed and is a spring and summer bloomer with an erect, densly many flowered, 9" [22.5 cm] long raceme with several [15], inverted flowers that open in succession over a long period. This orchid needs high humidity to be mounted, less to be potted in a bark mix, given deep shade and warm to cool temperatures. Reduce water and fertilizer through the winter months when growth stops but avoid letting the plant dry out completely
