Common Name or Meaning The Large Gastrodia

Found in Dak Lac Vietnam in secondary, evergreen, lowland and submontane, closed, broadleaf, shady forests with bamboo at elevations of 700 to 900 meters as a small to medium sized, warm growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with no leaves with a cylindrical, slightly bent, densely hairy, fleshy, brown tuber giving rise to an erect, rigid, straight to slightly flexuous, olive brown, whitish towards the apex, 10 to 24" [25 to 60 cm] long, stem with 5 to 8, broad, ovate to narrowly ovate, obtuse bracts that blooms in the fall on a terminal, 8 to 18" [20 to 45 cm] long peduncle and a 1.6 to 6" [4 to 15 cm] long rachis carrying 4 to 10 distant flowers with narrowly triangular, rigid, deep brown, acute floral bracts.
