Common Name or Meaning The Argentine Encyclia

Flower Size 1 1/2" [3.75 cm]

Found in Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina at elevations of 200 to 600 meters as a medium sized, hot to cool, strong growing species that likes bright light and has ovoid-oblongate to pyriform pseudobulbs that carry [usually] 2, long, coriaceous, narrowly-lanceolate, acute leaves and blooms in the spring on a terminal, 2 to 3 shortly branched, 16 to 42" [40 to 105 cm] long, few to several flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers.

This is an exteremly variable species as can be seen by the number of Synonyms put forward by Lou Menezes and may ultimately turn out to be more than one species. The lumpers and splitters can have at it.
