Found in Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso states of Brazil as well as northeastern Paraguay in fire prone areas at elevations around 1000 meters as a warm to cool growing, rupicolus terrestrial with 2/3's buried, small, ovoid, acuminate pseudobulbs carrying many, lanceolate to linear-ligulate, rigid, more or less plicate, concave leaves that blooms in the early spring on an erect, 20 to 32" [50 to 80 cm] long overall, peduncle 12 to 20" [30 to 50 cm] long, sparsely sheathed, paniculate, few branched, never rebranching, each several flowered, many flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers
