Agrostophyllum cheirophyton Ormerod, Orchadian 17 (2013) 376, fig.

Type: T.M. Reeve 6353 (holo K;iso LAE).

Epiphytic herb. Roots terete, pubescent, to 0.1 cm thick. Stem slender, compressed, 5-leaved, 6.5 by 0.3-0.8 cm, 2.0-3.5 cm wide across sheaths. Leaves oblong, obtuse, shortly petiolate, 2.8-8.65 by 1.15-1.75 cm; petiole 0.1-0.35 cm long;leaf sheaths 0.4-0.85 cm wide, stipules obliquely deltate; apex acute, to 0.1 cm long. Inflorescence terminal, composed of several bracts and sheaths, few flowered, c. 1.4 by 0.1 cm. Pedicel and ovary terete, 0.7 cm long, the ovary softly furfuraceous. Sepals softly furfuraceous outside. Median sepal ovate­ elliptic; carinate in apical third; apex subacute; 3-nerved, 0.4 by 0.2 cm. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate-lanceolate; carinate in apical quarter; apex subacute; 3-nerved, 0.59 by 0.23 cm (4.5 mm along midrib). Petals obliquely ovate-oblong, 0.49 by 0.19 cm; apex obtuse; 3-nerved. Lip 3-lobed, 0.67 cm long; hypochile retrorse saccate, its lateral lobes truncate, 0.3 by 0.11 cm; ligula subquadrate, its apex truncate-emarginate, minutely papillose-pubescent; epichile suborbicular, concave, 0.37 by 0.37 cm; apex acute. Column 0.3 cm long (without anther cap).

Agrostophyllum cheirophyton is similar to A. woitapense Ormerod but differs in having shorter stems (6.5 versus 31.5 cm), and flowers with a suborbicular lip epichile (versus widely ovate-rhombic).
