Chindongo socolofi (formerly known as Pseudotropheus socolofi) is found in intermediate zones from rocks to sand. They are very easy to keep and adapt quickly to other inhabitants.

The males and females both have the same colour pattern, the females have a lesser colour intensity though. The maximal size this species reaches is about 10 to 12 cm. The male in my aquarium was about 12 cm, the females 10 cm.

Since the end of 2014 untill the middle of 2017 I (Thimo) took care of a group of 1 male with 3 females in his tank. They have been spawning several times already in this aquarium and they appeared to be very productive. The male in this tank was quite agressive during mating-season against all other inhabitants.

In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with invertebrates and algae which they find on the rocks. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. Food rich of algae like spirulina pellets or flakes is very important to them so this should not be missing on their menu.
