Iodotropheus sprengerae "Makokola"


Iodotropheus sprengerae is found in a rocky environment near Boadzulu, Makokola Reef, Chinyankwazi Island and Chinyamwezi Island. This variant can be found at Makokola Reef and it`s got a more blue/violet color then the variants which are found at Chinyankwazi Island and Chinyamwezi Island (the so-called chocolate variant).


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 11 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 14 cm, females grow to about 10 cm.


Iodotropheus sprengerae is one of the most peaceful cichlids of the lake, only mutual they are sometimes intolerant, against other species they are very tolerant. You can best keep this species with multiple females and a lot of hiding places in the aquarium, with other not to agressive mbuna.


In the lake they are eating everything they find on the rocks which are covered with algae. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
