Awned haircap moss as seen along the "convict" road above Washington Highway SR14 above the twin tunnels one-half mile east of Lyle, Washington..........March 14, 2012. The beaked capsules held high above the leaves are the sporophyte stage where meiosis occurs and spores are produced. Several gametophyte stages are visible as brownish cups low amongst the leaves.
What appears to be awned haircap moss as seen on a basalt outcrop between the upper and lower falls along the Labyrinth Trail west of Rowland Lake in the Columbia River Gorge.................January 22, 2011.
