Utricularia amethystina : this plant grow as a semi-aquatic plant in pure mudd or in sandy substrates.
Some colonies can be found growing in 5cm of water, like in this biotope.
Colonies are rather small in this biotope...I found small groups of 10 to 20 plants here.
The flowers are of different colors, from white
to violet, with all intermediary nuances
and they can be of different sizes : U.amethystina is very variable...
The spur is very long, and is caracteristic for this plant. Please notice the single yellow blotch.
The inflorescence is pretty tall, 30 to 50cm in lenght. It's fine and thick :
Here we are in another savanna, during the month of april.
The leaves are hidden under tall grasses, and the racemes are just about to emerge from the grasses.
Please notice the soil : it's made of very thin sand and mudd particles.
One month later, in may, the soil is covered with a thin layer of water, and the plants are in full bloom.
Notice the violet colouration of the plant : this colour gives the plants it's name.
Again, the long and very caracteristic spur :
The flowers of U.amethystina are very variable in color and in size : the flowers of the plants from this biotope are violet and have 2 yellow blotches while the flowers from the first biotope (see upwards) are white with only one yellow point.
