Botanical Description

Rhizomes corm-like, densely clump-forming. Flowering stems up to 30cm high. Leaves up to 20cm long by l-2mm wide. Flowers in umbels of six to eight, greenish-white, about 1cm across with a cylindrical, crenate, orange to yellow corona. Zimbabwe to eastern Cape, in dry rocky grassland. Dormant from late summer to early spring when must be kept barely moist. Best in the alpine house, but can be grown in sheltered sites outside with protection from winter wet.
