Botanical Description

One of several yellow-flowered Maximowiczii species, distinguished by leaves whitish beneath and petals totally reflexed.Leaves lanceolate to ovate, to 25cm long, rounded at the apex, denticulate and narrowed to a winged stalk. Flowers pale yellow, on pedicels to 2.5cm long, in single whorls of eight to fifteen flowers on stems to 50cm high. China; west-central Sichuan, in shade amongst scrub, 3500-4000m. Records from elsewhere are of related species (P. aemula, P. advena, P. handeliana). Not difficult to raise from seed and flower, but rarely persists for long.
