Stoloniferous from a thick rootstock. Leaves up to 10cm or more long, narrowly oblong-elliptic, with short flattened stalks. Flowering stem 10-15c m high, the spike itself ovoid-oblong. Flowers 8-12mm long, mauve-pink to blue-purple, late spring to mid-summer. Soviet Armenia, Georgia, Iran and Turkey, in short grassland over clay at alpine levels (1300-2300m).
