Botanical Description

or more in height. Leaves as long as wide, bipinnatisect, the ultimate lobes entire and linear. Flowers bowl-shaped to flat, usually bright yellow, 4-8cm wide composed of ten to twenty elliptic petals, spring, sometimes early. Central, eastern and southern Europe, north to the central Urals and Sweden (Gotland), in dry pastures and rocky slopes, usually calcareous. Best in limey soil in the garden.
