Botanical Description

or more in height, the erect stems sometimes branched. Foliage distinct from that of A. vernalis in the presence of long-stalked basal leaves (AA. vernalis, volgensis and most other cultivated perennial species have stem leaves only). Flowers 4-6cm wide, composed of twelve to twenty bright golden yellow petals, summer. Pyrenees and Maritime Alps in mountain grassland. Best in neutral to acid soils. [Pl.4]
