Haworthia nortieri - South of Klawer

Some of the plant have flowers with yellow on the  inside. This feature does not seem to be constant however. (Flower picture by Gerhard Marx)

Haworthiopsis brevicula - Kap River DMC 8226

This plant belongs to the Reinwardtii group. The larger Haworthiopsis reinwardtii is also found among others in the Kap River area.

This one was discovered by David Cumming 3/4 way down the Kap River valley.

Drimia 110620 'crispum' - Patryskloof Worcester

A very attractive medium large growing bulb with undulate leaf margins. I do not know if it  has been officially described yet.

It maybe related to Drimia 'leopoortensis'   .

Both species have a solid bulb without scales.

Euphorbia fortuita - Between Barrydale and Ladismith

A rare species that is only known from one area in the Little Karoo.

Haworthia splendens 'Trista' - GM 452

An attractive white Haworthia splendens with slightly pointed leaves.

Original seed from Gerhard Marx. Alternative reference M190818A

Eriospermum marginata - Montagu

To my understanding Eriospermum marginata is very similar to Eriospermum zeyheri. Eriospermum marginata has a red leaf edge, however this does not always seem to be the case. Eriospermum zeyheri usually lacks the red margin, but also there I have seen specimens that actually do have it.

Eriospermum marginata occurs roughly from Montagu westwards while Eriospermum zeyheri is found eastwards in the Little Karoo and coast. I shall have to recheck this distribution again later

Eriospermum attenuatum aff - west of Garies

Oxalis sp - West of Kharkams R140820B

Geissorhiza ornithogaloides - Leopoort south of Oudtshoorn

Mostly found on lower southern slopes of hillsides.

Haworthiopsis granulata - Karree Rivier Tanqua Karoo

Not very common here at all.

Haworthiopsis sp - R140820 McGregor

An unidentified Haworthiopsis species found near McGregor. It could possibly be a garden plant that  escaped to nature.

Haworthia silviae - YH100902

A very attractive clone with translucent  leaves. Created by Yu Hanai.

Haworthia springbokvlakensis - Kirkwood

This specific clone has a network of vein visible on the leaves.

Albuca viscosa - Oudtshoorn

This attractive winter growing bulb is distributed in the western and Karoo parts of South Africa. It is found at a number of localities around Oudtshoorn

The plants are often confused with Albuca spiralis,  Albuca bruce-bayeri., Albuca namaquensis

Unlike  Albuca spiralis, the apex of the inner flowers tepals are hooded, while in Albuca spiralis they are hinged,. In the case of Albuca bruce-bayeri the leaves coil upwards and not sideways. Albuca namaquensis has smooth leaves while both Albuca viscosa and A spiralis have viscose leaves. There are also other differences.

Seed

Eriospermum capense - 'Corrugata' Uitspan

There seem to be a number of corrugated forms of Eriospermum capense south west of Oudtshoorn. These plants are often smaller (not always) thenthe more typical forms.

One of the most attractive forms are at Uitspan at the Gouritz River.

Eriospermum capense corrugata from keurkloof.

Gonialoe cultivar M070820A

A Gonialoe cultivar of unknown origin to me. An attractive plant which protruding tubercles on the epidermis. Flowers are roughly similar to those of Gonialoe variegata.

Cyrtantus obliquus - Port Elizabeth area

Cyrtantus obliquus occurs from Knysna to Kwazulu-Natal in grassland and grassy fynbos.

It is an attractive robust growing plant with spiral leaves. This specific form flowers in December, but flowering can be at other times also.

Astroloba robusta - South of Anysberg area Laingsburg

Found on low outcroppings, in shale, between two mountain ranges. It shares habitat with Astroloba corrugata.  Astroloba smutsiana is found further south on the mountain pass.

I thought this population to be disjunct to others in the Great Karoo, but it is possible that it links up with the same species at Prince Albert.

In cultivation the plants flower in August, while the plants from Prince Albert flowered weeks before, with the seed already ripening.

Pleiospilos compactus - Prince Albert

Mostly medium sized plants - quite a bit larger then Oudtshoorn's Pleiospilos canus.
Rather plentiful around Prince Albert. Flowers yellow.

Plants in nature do get quite a bit larger than this.

Haworthia bayeri - Rondekop SW Willowmore

An attractive form that grows a few km from the locality of Haworthia comptoniana.
